‘Grace’, in its purest sense, was probably not on the minds of many of the men who first drove these lovely little MG TC sports cars in the 1940s and 50s. They were popular among fighter pilots and criminals as they were fast, could turn on a dime and were good for picking up ladies! Doubtless women drove them too – probably to pick up fighter pilots!! ‘Grace’ could have been one of them, but most likely would have been a young woman seeking nylons from US fighter pilots, ‘riding’ with a pilot in one of these! My Mum and I were watching a 1940s period drama on TV once and there was one of these MGs. She suddenly said “I had an affair with a pilot who drove a car like that”!! She clarified this was before Dad and in the late 1940s when she was 18, but it really surprised me as she was such a shy woman and had only ever mentioned a male penpal in Switzerland in life before Dad!! The strumpet!! Bless her!

Well, I see a photo and a name comes to mind… A fumble in the back of a sports car was, unsurprisingly, not what came to mind with this shot…

Grace was, in fact, part of the 1950s/60s advertising campaigns for Jaguar saloons – “Grace, Space, Pace”. My 1990s Jag certainly fulfilled all those criteria!!
